South Carolina St. breaks past Norfolk St. 73-61

ORANGEBURG, S.C. (AP) Adama Adams scored 14 of his 23 points in the second half as South Carolina State broke away from a halftime tie to claim a 73-61 victory over Norfolk State on Saturday.

The Bulldogs (7-12, 3-3 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) were tied 29-29 at the break but shot out on a 16-2 run and led by 12 just 8 minutes into the second half.

Adams made just three field goals but was 17-for-17 at the free throw line, where the Bulldogs converted 27 of 31.

Norfolk State (11-9, 5-2), defending regular-season MEAC champ, shot 36.8 percent (21-57) in a key road trip that next visits conference leader Savannah State (5-0) on Monday. Brandon Goode led the Spartans with 19 points and 10 rebounds. Malcom Hawkins scored 11 and RaShid Gaston 10 in his third game back after a knee injury. Top scorer Pendarvis Williams was held to 1-for-10 shooting.
