South Alabama gets 68-62 victory over San Diego
Freddie Goldstein and Mychal Ammons scored 17 points apiece, Augustine Rubit added 15 points and 13 rebounds, and South Alabama got its seventh win in eight games Thursday, 68-62 over San Diego.
Goldstein was 5 of 10 from 3-point range, and Ammons was 7 of 10 overall for the Jaguars (8-3), who closed with an 11-4 run.
Chris Manresa scored 18 points off the bench for the Toreros (5-7), who have lost six of seven after a 4-1 start. Darian Norris added 17 points, including three 3-pointers, and Christopher Anderson dished out nine assists.
South Alabama trailed 58-57 after a Norris 3-pointer with 4:50 to play. But a Rubit free throw and an Ammons 3 gave the Jaguars the lead for good. San Diego pulled within two, 64-62, on a Manresa layup with a minute left, but Rubit hit a jumper and two free throws to seal the win.
