South Alabama 70, Sacramento St. 58
Tim Williams scored 23 points and South Alabama blitzed Sacramento State with torrid second-half shooting to win 70-58 Sunday in the Rice Basketball Challenge. Williams scored 15 of his points in the second half, and Gary Redus scored 14 of his 19 after the break as the Jaguars (2-1) heated up. Sacramento State (1-2) led by 14 late in the first half, and held a 29-21 lead at intermission. South Alabama shot 67 percent in the second half in putting up 49 points. The Jaguars were strong throughout from the free-throw line, making 23 of 26 in the game. Four Sacramento State starters split scoring honors with 10 points each. John Dickson, Sultan Toles-Bey, Antonio Flaggs and Domineek Daniel were the double-figure scorers for the Hornets, who shot 31 percent after halftime.
