Simmons sparks Central Michigan to 79-64 win over D-III Alma

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. (AP) Rayshawn Simmons scored 18 points and dished off eight assists as Central Michigan posted a 79-64 win over Division III Alma Tuesday night.

Playing for second straight game without the services of point guard Chris Fowler, the Chippewas built a 12-point cushion in the first half and cruised home.

John Simons scored 16 points and grabbed 16 rebounds and Luke Meyer added another 16 points for Central Michigan.

The regular season Mid-American Conference champions a year ago, Central Michigan knocked off Jacksonville State in its season-opener Friday, 89-83, and heads to Estero, Florida for three games in the Gulf Coast Showcase, beginning with Weber State on Monday.

DJ Beckman scored 16 points to lead Alma, with Scott Nikodemski and Chase Fairchild adding 15 and 14 points respectively. The Scots stayed close by knocking down 10 of 29 shots from beyond the arc.
