Shaq Goodwin pays homage to Vince Carter, promptly receives technical foul
Maybe Shaq Goodwin wanted to be in Saturday night's Slam Dunk Contest.
That would explain why the Memphis senior forward chose to use a fast break opportunity to pay homage to Vince Carter. On a breakaway, Goodwin put his entire forearm into the rim, replicating Carter's honey dip dunk from the 2001 Slam Dunk Contest.
Goodwin followed the slam by chest bumping teammate Trashon Burrell. There were a few problems, though. The Tigers still trailed Tulane, 42-41, and Goodwin was assessed a technical foul for hanging on the rim. To make matters worse, Memphis ended up losing, 94-87, in overtime. The Green Wave entered the weekend with only a pair of wins in the American.
Memphis head coach clearly was not happy about Goodwin's play at the end of the first half.
"Again, we couldn't get stops late. I'd love to have that point back at halftime (from Goodwin's technical foul). It was a big swing," Pastner said.
The Tigers have dropped back-to-back games and four of their last five.
