Seattle tops Bakersfield, 53-43, creates WAC logjam

SEATTLE (AP) Isiah Umipig scored 16 points and Seattle used a 10-point first-half lead to top CS Bakersfield 53-43 Saturday night.

The Redhawks (14-13, 7-6) now are in a three-way tie with Bakersfield (13-17, 7-6) and Grand Canyon for the No. 3 seed into the Western Athletic Conference tournament. Seattle closes out the regular season at Grand Canyon Saturday, and the WAC tournament begins March 12 in Las Vegas.

Seattle split the home-and-home series with the Roadrunners, falling 71-61 in overtime at Bakersfield. Grand Canyon won at Seattle, 66-64 February 4.

Seattle opened the game on a 17-1 run fueled by three Umipig 3-pointers and took a 24-14 lead into the break.

It was the seventh time this season that the Redhawks have held an opponent under 50 points.

Tyrell Corbin scored 12 points, Kevin Mays pulled down a dozen rebounds to lead the Roadrunners.
