Samford holds off Campbell 65-56

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) Tyler Hood scored 16 points to lead Samford past Campbell 65-56 on Sunday.

Darius Jones-Gibson had 12 points for Samford (6-8) and Michael Bradley added 10. Samford struggled from the free throw line, making just 13 of 28 (46.4 percent).

Samford led 28-23 at halftime and opened the second half on a 7-2 run for its first double-digit lead of the game.

Hood made consecutive baskets for a 15-point lead - Samford's largest of the game - with seven minutes remaining. Then three different Campbell players hit 3-pointers in the next four minutes to pull within 58-51 with 3:39 left.

Troy Harper hit a 3-pointer to pull Campbell within 60-56, but he missed five straight free throws on the Camels next two possessions.

Harper, a freshman, scored a season-high 18 points but was just 6 of 16 from the free throw line. D.J. Mason added 12 points for Campbell (6-7).
