Samford beats Jacksonville in overtime 76-70

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) Evan Taylor and Tyler Hood drilled 3-pointers in overtime to lead Samford over Jacksonville 76-71 on Monday.

Samford's Darius Jones-Gibson had a layup on overtime's first possession then Taylor and Hood hit 3s on consecutive possessions in the middle of the extra stanza to lift the Bulldogs.

Jones-Gibson led Samford (3-5) with 18 points. Hood scored 15 and Taylor added 12.

With 44 seconds left in regulation, Jones-Gibson went hard to the basket for a layup and was fouled by J.R. Holder. Jones-Gibson completed the 3-point play and Samford led by one at 62-61. At the other end, Jacksonville's Marcel White made 1 of 2 free throws to tie it. Samford had one last chance in regulation, but Christen Cunningham's jumper at the buzzer was no good.

Jacksonville (2-6) was paced by Andris Misters with 23 points, including four 3-pointers, and eight rebounds. Kori Babineaux had 12 points.
