Samford 79, Auburn 68
Josh Davis made eight 3-pointers and matched a career-high with 30 points to lead Samford to a 79-68 win against Auburn in the Global Sports Hoops Showcase Friday.
It was the Bulldogs' third win in 26 tries against the Tigers and their first since 1940, when the school was called Howard. Samford (2-1) made 18 3-pointers. Josh Bedwell, who finished with 21 points, had five of them.
The Bulldogs shot almost as well from 3-point range (54.5 percent) as they did overall (57.8).
Andre Malone more than doubled his previous career-best with 28 points for Auburn, which fell to 0-2 under new coach Tony Barbee.
The Tigers trimmed a 38-32 halftime deficit to two on a Kenny Gabriel putback with nine minutes left. Samford answered with 13-0 run sparked by three Bedwell 3-pointers that made it 67-52.
