Saint Peter's sweeps Manhattan 61-40 behind Welton's 18

RIVERDALE, N.Y. (AP) Quadir Welton scored 18 points and grabbed 10 rebounds and Saint Peter's beat Manhattan 61-40 on Tuesday night to clinch a top-five seed in the upcoming Mid-American Athletic Conference tournament.

Rodney Hawkins scored a career-high 15 points and grabbed nine rebounds and Chazz Patterson had a career-best five assists for the Peacocks (13-15, 11-8), who swept the season series against the Jaspers. Saint Peter's outscored Manhattan 40 to 20 in the paint and held the Jaspers to 26 percent shooting.

Up 25-21 at halftime, the Peacocks pulled further ahead on an 18-6 run in which Patterson and Trevis Wyche each hit 3s and led 43-27.

Saint Peter's went cold for nearly four minutes, but the Jaspers hit only 1 of 6 from the floor before the Peacocks got hot again, scoring 12 unanswered points to lead 57-37 with 2:07 left.

Zane Waterman scored 10 and Rich Williams had 10 rebounds for Manhattan (12-15, 9-9).
