Darnell Porter scored 24 points and South Carolina State held off Carver Bible 69-67 on Friday night.

The Bulldogs (2-1) overcame a nine-point deficit in the first half but could not put away Carver until the final seconds. Neither team led by more than four points in the second half.

With the score tied 64-64 with 41 seconds remaining, the Bulldogs made 5 of 6 free throw attempts the rest of the way to seal the win. Carver led 66-65 with 11 seconds remaining, then Rio Pitt made two free throws to put the Bulldogs ahead for good at 67-66. Tyvon Williams added two foul shots with 2 seconds to play for the Bulldogs.

South Carolina State won despite shooting 37.5 percent (21 of 56) from the field and committing 24 turnovers.

James Barber led Carver Bible (0-7) with 24 points. James Corner added 11 points and Nicholas Hood added 10 for Carver.
