Robert Morris defeats Monmouth (NJ) 81-73 in OT
Velton Jones scored 35 points and Robert Morris came back to defeat Monmouth (N.J.) 81-73 in overtime Saturday night after trailing by 15 points in the second half.
Anthony Myers scored five points and Jones three as the Colonials (15-6, 6-2 Northeast Conference) scored the first eight points in overtime.
The Hawks (11-17, 2-6) trailed 33-29 at halftime but began the second half with a 19-1 run that included three 3-pointers by Jesse Steele and two by Dion Nesmith. They led 53-38 with 12:20 left.
Three consecutive 3-pointers by Myers began a 15-2 Robert Morris run that ended in a 61-61 tie. Myers finished with 16 points, making all five of his shots.
Nesmith scored 22 to lead Monmouth, making 8 of 9, including 6 of 7 on 3-pointers. Steele scored 15.
Jones scored his 1,000th career point on a 3-pointer midway through the first half and now has 1,024.
