Richmond reserve Marshall Wood sidelined by concussion

Updated Mar. 4, 2020 9:20 p.m. ET

NEW YORK (AP) Richmond forward Marshall Wood will miss the Spiders' Atlantic 10 Conference tournament opener against Fordham on Thursday because of a concussion.

The school says the redshirt junior suffered the concussion Sunday in a single-car accident when he swerved to avoid a deer on the road.

He is in the Spiders' medical staff's concussion protocol and his status will be evaluated day to day if Richmond advances.

A transfer from Virginia Tech, Wood averaged 8.6 points and 3.9 rebounds this season. He was second on the team in 3-pointers made with 58 and scored a season-best 29 points with 7 3-pointers in a 93-82 victory at Fordham on Jan. 10.
