Rhode Island holds off Coll. of Charleston 75-66

Delroy James scored 20 points and Nikola Malesevic added 17 to help Rhode Island defeat College of Charleston 75-66 in the subregional round of the 2K Sports Coaches vs. Cancer Classic on Friday.

Will Martell added 12 points and 11 rebounds to notch his first career double-double. James also grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds and Malesevic shot 6 of 8 from the field, including 3 for 3 from 3-point range.

The Rams (2-1) held Charleston to 10-of-30 (33.3 percent) shooting in the first half and led 29-25 at halftime.

The Cougars (2-2) trailed by as little as six points, 70-64, with 1:19 remaining in the game, but two free throws from Jeremy Simmons were their only points the rest of the way.


Andrew Goudelock scored a game-high 23 points on 9-of-29 shooting (31 percent) for Charleston and Simmons added 22.

Rhode Island shot 27 for 59 (45.8 percent) from the field as a team.
