Report: Coach K does not see his college coaching career ending soon
Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski already has committed to coaching Team USA through the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. But his time on college basketball's sidelines figures to extend beyond that, perhaps well beyond that, the winningest coach in Division I told Yahoo Sports.
"I might coach in college longer," Krzyzewski said. "Probably. I do not see an end of my road in my college coaching."
Krzyzewski, 67, is just 17 wins shy of 1,000 for his career, a mark he should reach in January. Though the 2013-14 season was a difficult one for several reasons, he says he's in good health despite having a dizzy spell during the second half of a road loss at Wake Forest in March. After earning a No. 3 seed in the NCAA Tournament later that month, Duke was bounced in the round of 64 by No. 14 seed Mercer.
"This past year emotionally for me was difficult," Krzyzewski told Yahoo Sports. "My brother passed the day after Christmas. The second half of the season, especially that month, right after was different than I've ever had. It just wore me down a little bit. I'm good. I feel great. There is nothing. No problem."
Krzyzewski has ample reason to feel energized. He is welcoming in what is widely regarded as the top recruiting class this season because of three top-flight players in center Jahlil Okafor, point guard Tyus Jones and swingman Justise Winslow. Duke also has shooting guard Grayson Allen coming on board.
Okafor may be the most important player of the bunch, as he'll give Duke a bona fide low-post presence the team lacked last season.
