Providence 84, Wyoming 77

Vincent Council scored a career-high 29 points to lead Providence to an 84-77 victory over Wyoming on Wednesday night.

Council, a sophomore guard, was 16 for 16 from the free throw line and was 6 for 9 from the field as the Friars (5-1) finished third in the Cancun Challenge.

Providence scored 20 points off of 17 turnovers and led by as many as 15 with 8:22 left in the game.

Gerald Coleman scored 15 points, Duke Mondy had 12 and Marshon Brooks added 10 for the Friars.

The Cowboys (2-4) scored 48 of their points in the paint compared to 26 by Providence, but was 4 for 16 from the 3-point line (25 percent).

They were 15 for 17 from the free throw line (88.2 percent).

Desmar Jackson led Wyoming with 21 points and eight rebounds. Amath M'Baye and Djibril Thiam added 19 points each.
