Melvin Jones scored 23 points to lead Portland State to an 83-76 win over Seattle University on Wednesday night.
Chris Harriel added 15 points for the Vikings (4-1) while Charles Odum and Chehales Tapscott each had 12.
Cervante Burrell led Seattle (3-7) with 20 points and Alex Jones had 13.
The Vikings used a 16-2 run to take a 33-20 lead on Harriel's driving lay-in with 7:23 to play before halftime.
After trailing 40-30 at the break, the Redhawks fought back behind a trapping defense and closed to within five points, 60-55, with 8:35 to play on Mark McLaughlin's 3-pointer. Seattle got as close as two points down the stretch but the Vikings connected on 8 of 10 free throws in the final minutes to secure the victory.
Portland State shot just 40 percent but outrebounded Seattle 42-33.
