ITHACA, N.Y. (AP) Trey Phills stole a pass and scored what proved to be the winning points with eight seconds left as Yale escaped with an 82-80 victory over Cornell on Friday night.

After Noah Yates hit a 3-pointer to give Yale the lead, Cornell's Matt Morgan, under pressure at midcourt, forced a pass that was intercepted by Phills whose layup made it 82-78. Morgan was fouled on a 3-point attempt with 3.2 remaining, made the first two free throws and intentionally missed the third and the ball went out of bounds off the Bulldogs with 2.8 left. But Steve Julian's deep baseline shot missed as time ran out.

Blake Reynolds led Yale (13-14, 6-5 Ivy League) with 20 points and Phills and Yates had 17 each. Yale shot 51 percent overall and 53 percent from the arc (10 of 19).

Morgan scored 23 points and Stone Gettings 16 with 10 rebounds for the Big Red (10-14, 4-7), which shot 50 percent overall but made just 6 of 19 3-point tries.
