Parks scores career-high 29, CSNU beats UC Riverside 83-76

LOS ANGELES (AP) Aaron Parks scored a career-high 29, Stephan Hicks had 17 of his 20 points in the second half, and Cal State Northridge beat UC Riverside 83-76 on Saturday night.

The sophomore Parks was 19 for 23 from the foul line in his eighth straight game with double-digit scoring and second 20-point game of his career. Stephen Maxwell added 10 points and nine rebounds.

CSUN (9-22, 4-11 Big West) opened the second half with six straight points after it was 36-all at halftime. The Matadors led until Riverside (14-14, 7-7) tied it 68-all on Taylor Johns' reverse layup - giving him 1,000 career points.

But CSNU pulled away with seven straight points, keeping the Highlanders from taking any lead in the second half.

Johns finished with 21 points and nine rebounds to lead Riverside. Jaylen Bland added 17 points while Nick Gruninger and Charles Standifer scored 11 apiece.
