No. 19 Syracuse overpowers upstate New York foe Colgate

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) Tyler Roberson scored 18 points, fifth-year transfers Andrew White and John Gillon had 17 and 13 points apiece as No. 19 Syracuse overpowered upstate New York foe Colgate 83-55 on Friday night in the season opener for both teams.

Frank Howard added 11 points and a career-high nine assists for Syracuse, which shot 55 percent from the field. The Orange scored 44 points inside the paint, and had 23 fast break points, thoroughly dominating the Red Raiders at both ends of the court.

Malcolm Regisford led Colgate with 10 points. Sean O'Brien had nine.

Colgate shot just 28 percent, including 11 straight misses in the first half. The Red Raiders hung tough at the outset. Syracuse led 18-15 with more than 11 minutes to go in the first half before going on a 12-0 run to start putting the game away.
