New Mexico downs UNLV 87-83 behind Williams' 29 points

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) Tim Williams scored 12 straight points down the stretch and New Mexico beat UNLV 87-83 on Tuesday night.

Williams, who finished with 29 points, began his streak with the game tied at 70 with 6:41 to play and his muscle-in basket with just under a minute left put New Mexico (14-8, 7-2 Mountain West) ahead to stay.

Elijah Brown added 26 points for the Lobos, including hitting all 12 of his free throws.

Stephen Zimmerman Jr. scored a career-high 21 for UNLV (13-10, 4-6), but after making two buckets in the first minute of the second half, didn't score again until the final minute.

Jordan Cornish came off the bench to score 17, including two 3-pointers in the final minutes.

The lead changed hands 16 times and the game was tied 14 times, the last time at 76-all with 2:45 to play.
