New Mexico 72, Washington St. 62

Tony Snell scored 20 points and New Mexico led throughout to beat Washington State 72-62 on Friday night in the 76 Classic.

Kendall Williams had 17 points and seven rebounds as the Lobos (3-2) regrouped from an overtime loss to Santa Clara a day earlier. Chad Adams added 11 points for New Mexico.

The Lobos will face Boston College in the consolation bracket championship game on Sunday.

New Mexico quickly built a 13-2 lead and went up by as many as 17 points midway through the first half.

Faisal Aden scored 25 points to lead Washington State (2-3), which closed to within seven points in the second half.

The Cougars committed 10 turnovers in the opening nine minutes and missed 10 of their first 12 shots to fall behind. They finished with 18 turnovers.

New Mexico hit 9 of 19 3-pointers.
