NC Central upends Bethune-Cookman 77-54
DURHAM, N.C. (AP) Reggie Groves scored 15 points and North Carolina Central trampled Bethune-Cookman 77-54 on Saturday, expanding their win streak to nine games while staying atop the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference.
Emanuel Chapman scored 14 points with 11 assists and Karamo Jawara and Jay Copeland recorded 11 points apiece for the Eagles.
North Carolina Central (17-5, 8-1) broke out to a 17-5 lead on the heels of a trio of 3-pointers made by Groves over a 90-second span midway through the first period. The Eagles upped that gap to 13 and led Bethune-Cookman 35-22 at the break.
The Eagles edged further from Bethune-Cookman (5-21, 3-8) throughout the second period, and finished shooting a blistering 62 percent from the field, including 9 of 14 (64 percent) from 3-point range, leading to the 23-point win.
Malik Jackson led Wildcat scorers with 14 points.
