Three Mississippi Valley State players scored 19 points apiece Saturday as the Delta Devils won their first game of the season, defeating Georgia Southern 75-64 in the South Padre Island Invitational.
Terrance Joyner, Orlando Smith and D'Angelo Jackson shared team-high scoring honors for MVSU (1-5). Smith also had 14 rebounds, including five on the offensive end.
Ben Drayton led Georgia Southern (2-5) with 24 points.
The game was tied 58-58 with 5:30 remaining when the Delta Devils went on a 14-3 run to go on top 72-61 with 1:01 remaining. Falanda Jones had 5 of his 11 points during the run for MVSU.
The two teams combined for 49 turnovers - 28 by the Eagles and 21 by the Delta Devils. MVSU had a strong showing at the free-throw line, hitting 25 of 34 shots compared to 18 of 30 for Georgia Southern.
