Larry Bastfield had a career-high 20 points and Morgan State used a second-half surge to defeat North Carolina Central 71-64 on Monday night.

Trailing 41-37 with 16:45 remaining, the Bears (5-12, 3-3 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) launched an 11-1 run to pull ahead. DeWayne Jackson hit a 3-pointer and made a layup to spark the spree.

The Eagles (9-10, 3-3) got within two, at 50-48 with 12:04 to go, but could not regain the lead. Morgan State led by as many as 10 with 3:40 to go.

The Bears, who came in having lost three of four, outshot N.C. Central in the second half 42.9 percent (12 of 28) to 26.7 percent (8 of 30).

Kevin Thompson added 13 points for Morgan State and Ameer Ali and Aric Brooks had 11 apiece.

Dominique Sutton and Ray Willis each scored 16 to lead the Eagles, who have lost four of six.
