Moore scores 20 as The Citadel beats Samford 77-67

CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) Ashton Moore scored 13 of his 20 points in the final six minutes to help The Citadel pull away and beat Samford 77-67 on Thursday night.

Marcus Johnson hit back-to-back jumpers to pull Samford within 62-59 with 6:09 to play. Moore scored The Citadel's next 11 points to stretch its lead to 73-67 lead with 53 seconds left. Samford missed its next three shots, and Quinton Marshall and Moore each made a pair of free throws to seal it.

Moore was 5 of 13 from the field and 9 of 9 from the line. Marshall had 17 points on 6-of-10 shooting and grabbed 10 rebounds for The Citadel (7-8, 2-2 Southern League), which outrebounded Samford 32-18.

Darius Jones-Gibson scored 18 points and Brandon Roberts had 15 to lead Samford (7-11, 0-5).
