Monmouth crushes Bethune-Cookman, 73-50
WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. (AP) Deon Jones scored 14 points, including 3-of-4 from 3-point range, pulled down six rebounds, and Monmouth beat Bethune-Cookman 73-50 on Friday night.
Josh James, Zac Tillman, and Andrew Nicholas each added eight points for the Hawks (1-1), who shot 54.3 percent from the field got the free throw line 30 times, 24 more than their Bethune-Cookman counterparts.
Clemmye Owens came off the bench to lead the Wildcats (1-2) with 22 points on 8-of-12 shooting. Quentin Brewer added 12 points for Bethune-Cookman, who were plagued by turnovers much of the night, committing 22 total.
Leading 9-8 midway through the first half, Monmouth took control of the game with a 10-0 run to seize momentum for good, eventually building its lead as high as 24 in the second half.
