GREENSBORO, N.C. (AP) North Carolina sophomore forward Kennedy Meeks will miss the No. 19 Tar Heels' Atlantic Coast Conference tournament opener.

Team spokesman Matt Bowers says Meeks won't play in the second-round game against Boston College on Wednesday because of illness. Meeks had been battling a fever that had kept him out of recent practices, but he had tested negative for mononucleosis and strep throat.

Meeks is averaging 12 points and 7.6 rebounds with 27 starts for the Tar Heels (21-10), the tournament's No. 5 seed.

Freshman guard Theo Pinson is a game-time decision because of a sore his left foot. He had missed nearly a month after breaking that foot before returning for the final two regular-season games.
