Mason leads balanced Yale past Bryant 79-40

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (AP) Makai Mason scored 14 of his 17 points in a breakaway second half as Yale defeated Bryant 79-40 on Wednesday night.

Sam Downey, starting for the second time in his career, chipped in 16 points with seven rebounds, Nick Victor added 14 points and eight boards for Yale (4-3).

Yale dominated the boards, outrebounding Bryant 51-30. Four Yale players had at least seven boards. Bryant has not outrebounded an opponent this season.

Bryant (2-6) lost its fifth straight game and remained winless on the road. Dan Garvin led the Bulldogs with nine points, the closest to double figures.

After Bryant came within 24-20 in the first half, Yale closed on a 12-4 run to lead 36-24 at the break and kept the lead in double digits the rest of the way.

Yale had 17 assists - Mason had six - on 26 field goals. Bryant shot 28 percent (15 of 53) from the field.
