Marquette leads by 38 at half, beats Western Carolina 90-44

MILWAUKEE (AP) Andrew Rowsey had 21 points, Markus Howard added 17 and Marquette had a 38-point halftime lead on its way to a 90-44 win over Western Carolina on Wednesday night.

Rowsey and Howard each hit four 3-pointers and the Golden Eagles (5-2) were 13 of 27 from the arc. Luke Fischer added 15 points and Jajuan Johnson scored 13.

Marquette opened the first 10 minutes with a 30-9 lead and extended the advantage to 56-18 at the half. Western Carolina (2-5) got no closer than 71-34 in the second half.

Haboubacar Mutombo had a career-high 17 points and Elijah Pughsley added 12 for the Catamounts. Mutombo was 5 of 10 from the field and 2 of 4 from 3-point range. Western Carolina was 7 of 25 (28 percent) from both inside and outside the arc.
