Manhattan tops Canisius 84-73

BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) George Beamon scored 27 points to lead a hot-shooting offense as Manhattan topped Canisius 84-73 Friday.

Manhattan (16-6, 9-4 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference) shot 52 percent from the field and connected on 11 of 22 3-point attempts. The Jaspers' offense was on mark from the start, as Manhattan opened the game on a 15-1 spurt.

Canisius (16-8, 10-3) cut the lead to 32-30 after a 3-pointer from Billy Baron with 5:16 left in the first half, but Manhattan closed the half on a 15-5 run and the Golden Griffins could not cut the deficit to fewer than five points in the second half.

Ashton Pankey scored 16 points to go along with 11 rebounds and five blocks for the Jaspers while Shane Richards had 14 points. Michael Alvarado added 11.

Baron led Canisius with 22 points and seven assists. Dominique Raney had 15 points and Zach Lewis added 13.
