Gerald McLemore scored 12 points to lead Maine to a 68-56 victory over Massachusetts on Wednesday night, snapping the Black Bears' four-game losing streak.

Terrance Mitchell and Malachi Peay scored 10 points each for Maine (3-5) and UMass (7-2) shot just 29.5 percent from the field (18 of 61) to drop its second straight game after opening with seven straight wins.

Sean Carter hit a layup to give UMass a 38-35 lead with 14:43 to go, but the Minutemen had just one field goal in the next 5:50 and Maine used a 17-2 run for a 57-44 lead with 5:45 to play.

McLemore and Mitchell both made 3-pointers in that run.

The Minutemen hit just two more field goals the rest of the game, shooting 22.9 percent from the field (8 for 35) in the second half.

Troy Barnies added 10 rebounds for Maine.

UMass' Anthony Gurley, who entered the game averaging 21.4 points, was held to 12.
