Erik Etherly led four players in double figures with 22 points as Loyola (MD) defeated Maryland-Baltimore County 86-70 Wednesday night in a nonconference meeting.

Tyler Hubbard and Dylon Cormier scored 17 points apiece for the Greyhounds while Robert Olson chipped in with 10.

UMBC (1-2) led 15-14 early in the first half before Hubbard knocked down a 3-pointer and converted a three-point play on back-to-back possessions to put Loyola up 20-15.

The Retrievers cut the deficit to one, 20-19, but Loyola closed the half on a 25-11 run to take a 15-point advantage, 45-30, into halftime.

UMBC never got any closer than 11 in the second half.

Loyola (2-1) shot 50 percent (28 of 56) from the field -including 7 of 14 from deep - and dominated the boards 44-29.

Chase Plummer led UMBC with 28 points but shot just 9 of 17 from the field.
