Louisville's Anas Mahmoud out for remainder of the season

Published Feb. 15, 2016 11:22 p.m. ET

The Louisville frontline got thinner this week.

The program announced on Monday night that sophomore center Anas Mahmoud is out for the remainder of the shortened season with a right ankle injury.

Last week, Louisville head coach Rick Pitino said he did not expect junior center Mangok Mathiang to return this season. The 6-foot-10 Mathiang has been out since mid-December with a foot injury.

Mahmoud, the 7-foot native of Egypt, was averaging 3.4 points, 3.1 rebounds and 1.4 blocks in 13.7 minutes per game.

Louisville, which announced a self-imposed postseason ban on Feb. 5, will have six more regular season games before the 2015-16 campaign comes to an end.
