Jeremiah Bowman scored 22 points and Martiz Washington added 21 as Longwood defeated Columbia 95-76 Saturday night.
The Lancers (2-2) broke a tight game open in the second half, when they scored 61 points and shot 57.6 percent from the field (19 of 33).
Longwood led 34-33 at halftime and trailed briefly before using a 10-2 run to take a 48-42 advantage. The Lancers built the lead to 12 before the Lions (1-3) rallied to within five, 58-53, on Noruwa Agho's layup with 9:32 left.
Longwood responded with a 17-3 spurt that put the game out of reach, making it 75-56 with 5:30 left.
Washington needed only 22 minutes off the bench to achieve his career-high scoring output. He was hot from 3-point range, making 6 of 8 attempts.
Aaron Mitchell had 16 points for Longwood and Antwan Carter scored 14 points and grabbed 11 rebounds.
Agho had 19 points to lead Columbia.
