Lipscomb 90, SIU-Edwardsville 87
Robert Boyd hit a 3-pointer with 6 seconds remaining to lift Lipscomb to a 90-87 victory over Southern Illinois-Edwardsville on Tuesday in the opening game of the Cancun Challenge.
Southern Illinois-Edwardsville (0-3) had tied the score 87-87 with 33 seconds left after a 9-1 run fueled by Corey Wickware, who scored all of the Cougars' points during that stretch. Wickware also attempted a 3-pointer at the final buzzer, but his shot fell short.
Boyd finished with 12 points and was one of five players in double figures for Lipscomb (2-3). Zavion Williams led all scorers with 28 points. Malcolm Smith scored 13, and Damarius Smith and Justin Glenn added 11 points for the Bisons.
Jerome Jones led the Cougars with 20 points. Wickware added 15. Yelovich and Kevin Stineman each had 12. Kris Davis scored 11, and Michael Messer added 10.
The game was part of the Cancun Challenge. Eight games were played in the U.S. and eight are scheduled this week in Cancun, Mexico.
