Lamar 90, UC Riverside 75
Brandon Davis scored 16 points and Donley Minor came off the bench to score 15 as Lamar beat UC Riverside 90-75 on Friday in the first game of the SMU Invitational.
The Cardinals (2-0) made 35 of 41 free throws (85.4 percent) as the Highlanders committed 33 fouls, third most in program history.
B.J. Shearry's double-double of 13 points and 11 rebounds paced UC Riverside (1-2). Phil Martin added 13 points, Kareem Nitoto 11 and Elliott Berry 10, and Tyquan Brown had a game-best 12 rebounds.
Anthony Miles had 10 points and a game-high five assists for Lamar.
Minor hit the first of his four 3-pointers with 11:28 to go in the first half to give Lamar a 19-17 lead. Minor nailed two more from long range as the Cardinals extended their lead to 31-22 with 8:50. They were up 50-42 at halftime and stretched that to as high as 17 in the second half.
