Jared Mintz scored 28 points and Lafayette defeated New Jersey Institute of Technology 72-56 on Wednesday night.

The Leopards (4-6) led 35-26 at halftime and shot 60.9 percent from the field in the second half (14 of 23). Mintz, who was 11 of 16, scored 20 after halftime.

The Highlanders (2-5) brought it to 53-47 on Jheryl Wilson's free throw with 10:32 to play, before Lafayette went on a big run. The Leopards outscored NJIT 16-2 to take their biggest lead, 69-49, on Darion Benbow's jumper with 4:23 left in the game.

Benbow finished with 10 points on 5-of-5 shooting, and Tony Johnson also had 10 points for Lafayette. The Leopards shot 54.2 percent for the game (26 of 48), scoring 34 points in the paint, including 22 in the second half.

Wilson led the Highlanders with 21 points. Chris Flores chipped in 10 for NJIT, which lost its fourth straight to Lafayette.
