Kentucky cheerleader hospitalized & released after fall during scrimmage
Kentucky cheerleader Mercedes Laster has been treated and released from UK Chandler Hospital after being injured in a fall during the first half of the Wildcats' Blue-White basketball scrimmage.
Laster, a junior from London, Kentucky, was moving, alert and responsive while being treated by emergency medical personnel Monday night. She was placed on a hard board and fitted with a neck brace before being wheeled out of Rupp Arena to applause.
Kentucky spokesman John Hayden says Laster "is appreciative of the thoughts and prayers from everyone in the Big Blue Nation and thankful for the medical care she received at the arena and the hospital." Hayden also says in a text message that Laster is looking forward "to getting back to practice with her teammates soon."
