Kansas State Women Win Big Game in Lubbock

The Kansas State Women’s Basketball team started a tough February road trip Wednesday. They picked up a big win at Texas Tech 65-53.

Picking up where they left off last weekend, Jeff Mittie’s Wildcats saw four players score in double figures. The were led by senior center Breanna Lewis with 19 points, 11 rebounds and two blocks.

With Lewis in the lineup, the Wildcats controlled the boards and more. They had a 42-18 advantage in points in the paint and a 41-34 edge on the glass.

The Wildcats made a significant statement after halftime. They made an 11-2 run to open the third quarter and showed the Lady Raiders who was in control of the contest.

Once again the bench came through for Kansas State as Freshman forward Peyton Williams added 12 points and five rebounds.

On defense, Kansas State forced 15 turnovers and they held the Lady Raiders to a 37.5 percent (21-of-56) shooting.

When you out-rebound and force more turnovers than your opponent, it makes a big difference on the road.

Kayrla Middlebrook recorded her seventh game in double figures this season.

Kaylee Page carded her 15th career double figure scoring game and her seventh this season.  She finished 3-of-3 from beyond the arc, her 23rd career game with two or more made three-pointers.

Shaelyn Martin ended the night with eight rebounds. This was her 56th career game with five or more rebounds.

The win improved the ‘Cats to 17-6 and 7-4 in the Big 12.

The schedule doesn’t get easier. They play a tough Texas team in Austin on Saturday evening.
