Last season: 15-17, missed NCAA Tournament.

Nickname: Wildcats. Coach: Bruce Weber.

Conference: Big 12.

Key returners: Senior guard Justin Edwards is back after the Maine transfer got his first taste of Big 12 play last season ... junior forward Wesley Iwundu is the Wildcats' top returning rebounder and averaged 5.8 points last season ... junior forward D.J. Johnson is back after missing all of last season with a foot injury ... junior college transfer Carlbe Ervin II and freshmen Barry Brown, Kamau Stokes and Dean Wade should play significant minutes ... also expected to be in mix are freshmen Ron Freeman, Isaiah Maurice, Pierce McAtee and Dante Williams.

Who left: Just about everybody. Top playmaker Marcus Foster transferred to Creighton after a series of run-ins with coaching staff ... freshman forward Malek Harris left for the College of Southern Idaho and freshman guard Tre Harris transferred to SIU-Edwardsville ... sophomore guards Nigel Johnson (Rutgers) and Jevon Thomas (Seton Hall) also left ... senior forwards Nino Williams and Thomas Gipson graduated after making key contributions.

The Skinny: Things couldn't go much worse for the Wildcats than they did last season, on the court and away from it. Kansas State lost to the likes of Texas Southern in the regular season, while numerous suspensions and infighting made for a rocky existence among players and coaches. So, while the Wildcats are hopeful for more harmony this season, there's also a good chance that all the new faces will take a while to learn the ropes. Kansas State hopes to get back to the NCAA Tournament this season, but it will be a big task in a loaded Big 12.
