Jim Boeheim gets a big head

Jim Boeheim's head is hard to ignore these days.

The student section at one end of the basketball court named after Syracuse's Hall of Fame coach is a raucous place, and it reached a fever pitch Saturday when a 5-foot cardboard cutout of Boeheim's head debuted in the stands.

The brainchild of graduate student Pat Manley, a great nephew of former Syracuse University trustee George Manley (the Carrier Dome replaced Manley Field House as the Orange's home in 1980), the cutout popped up again Monday night against No. 7 Georgetown.

After his fourth-ranked Orange beat the Hoyas, Boeheim was asked if he is able to ignore the huge likeness peering down at the bench.

``Yes, I can ignore that,'' he said. ``I don't like to look at my face when I shave. Why would I go out of my way to look at it? When we don't play well, they'll be throwing that at me.''
