Jacksonville handles USC Upstate 88-82

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) Jarvis Haywood scored 24 points and Keith McDougald added 20 as Jacksonville led by as many as 21 in the second half and beat South Carolina-Upstate 88-82 on Saturday.

Jacksonville (11-16, 7-9 Atlantic Sun Conference) went on an early 14-2 run to take an 18-8 lead and never trailed after that. The Dolphins built a 69-48 lead with less than 7 1/2 minutes to play.

Vince Martin added 18 points for Jacksonville and Javon Dawson scored 11 as the Dolphins shot 60.5 percent from the field, hit 8 of 16 from 3-point range and made 28 of 33 free throws.

Haywood went 8 of 13 from the field and hit all seven of his free throws while McDougald went a perfect 11-of-11 from the free throw line.

Torrey Craig led USC Upstate (17-13, 10-7) with 21 points while Karim Mawuenyega added 14.
