Jacksonville edges FIU in overtime 78-75
MOBILE, Ala. (AP) Omar El Manasterly's tip-in tied the game in overtime and his two free throws gave Jacksonville the lead and the Dolphins went on to a 78-75 victory over Florida International on Saturday in the Red Diamond Roundball Classic.
Cody Helgeland added two free throws for a 76-73 lead, FIU's Michael Kessens scored to get within two but Darien Fernandez added two more free throws with a minute to go for the game's final points as the Panthers (1-2) missed a pair of 3-pointers.
Fernandez made a pair of free throws with four seconds left in regulation to tie the game.
J.R. Holder led Jacksonville (2-1) with 28 points and Fernandez added 20.
Donte McGill scored 23 points and Kessens 19 for FIU.
Jacksonville shot 51.9 percent and FIU 50 percent but the Dolphins made 7 of 16 3-point tries to 3 of 14 for the Panthers.
