Paul Carter scored 21 of his 24 points in a big second half for Illinois-Chicago as it defeated Rhode Island 74-68 on Sunday.

The Flames (3-2) made 20 of 28 from the field in the second half (71.4 percent) and Carter and Robo Kreps combined to score 38 of their 52 points after the break.

Kreps, who scored 17 points in the second half, finished with 27 in the 2K Sports Coaches vs. Cancer Classic matchup.

Illinois-Chicago trailed 26-22 at halftime and by as much as seven, 31-24, with 19:04 left to play.

The Flames then went on a 12-4 run to take a 36-35 lead on Brad Birton's layup with 15:46 to go.

Illinois-Chicago finished shooting 50 percent from the field (28 of 56) after making just 8 of 28 in the first half (28.6 percent).

Marquis Jones had 21 points for the Rams (3-2), Delroy James finished with 16 and Will Martell added 10.
