Human error: Fan misses shot at $100k after bracket gaffe
Corey Johnson was one click away from setting himself up to win $100,000.
Unfortunately, he forgot to make that click.
The college hoops fan made headlines on Monday when it was revealed that his NCAA basketball bracket, which correctly picked three of four national semifinalists as well as both UConn and Kentucky in the championship game, had not selected a winner.
Johnson’s error meant that he was no longer in the running to win a $100,000 prize given to the top 20 brackets in the Yahoo! Sports’ Quicken Loans Billion Dollar Bracket Challenge.
“It was like hitting the winning shot, then being told the clock had already expired,” Johnson said.
The Meriden, Conn., native is a lifelong UConn basketball fan and claims he selected the Huskies to win it all when he entered in his bracket.
“I clicked UConn to win, put in the final score, and clicked save,” Johnson said. “I guess it didn’t save.”
The 28-year-old was interviewed before the Huskies beat Kentucky Monday night, but said he was pulling for his hometown team despite the missed opportunity.
