Hartford 56, New Hampshire 49
Andres Torres scored 27 points to lead previously-winless Hartford to a 56-49 win over New Hampshire on Thursday night in an America East Conference game.
The Hawks, who lost their first 13 games of the season, trailed New Hampshire (5-8, 0-2) 20-18 at halftime. Only four players from each team scored in that low-scoring first half. But after intermission, Torres took control, scoring 19 of his points in the second half. The guard repeatedly went to the foul line and hit 14 of 17 free throws.
Hartford (1-13, 1-1) trailed 47-44 with 1:54 left but outscored the Wildcats 12-2 down the stretch. Torres scored seven of Hartford's last 12 points, making a layup and five more free throws.
Mark Nwakamma scored 10 points for the Hawks, two on a drive in that decisive run.
Ferg Myrick (12 points) and Alvin Abreu were the only Wildcats in double figures.
