Darrion Pellum scored 22 points, including knocking down four 3-pointers, to lead Hampton over Florida A&M 74-59 on Saturday night.

Mike Tuitt added 19 points and Christopher Tolson 11 for the Pirates (10-18, 6-8 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference), who have won one game for every two losses during their current seven-game stretch.

The Pirates closed the first half on a 16-5 run for a 19-point lead at intermission. They held on despite being outscored 33-29 by FAMU in the second half.

Pellum led the 3-point assault for Hampton, which outshot the Rattlers 35 percent (7 of 20) to just an 18.2 percent mark (4 of 22) from long range.

Hampton was outrebounded by FAMU 43-38, but forced 16 Rattlers turnovers. The Pirates gave the ball away just six times.

Amin Stevens finished with a double-double, scoring 13 points and pulling down 14 boards to lead the Rattlers (8-20, 6-8).
