Kwame Morgan scored 14 points and Darrion Pellum added 12 as Hampton defeated South Carolina State 64-53 on Saturday night.
The Pirates (18-5, 8-2 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) shot 34.5 percent from the field (10 of 29) in the opening half and entered halftime in a 22-22 tie.
Hampton's shooting improved to 13 of 24 from the floor (54.2 percent) in the second half, including 12 of 13 on shots inside the 3-point line.
Koron Reed added 10 points and Danny Agbelese grabbed 10 rebounds for the Pirates, who finished 2 of 13 beyond the arc (12.5 percent).
The Bulldogs (6-16, 2-7) led 25-24 less than a minute into the second half, but a layup from Brandon Tunnell gave the lead back to Hampton and South Carolina State never led again.
Tyvon Williams scored 12 and Omar Sanders added 10 for the Bulldogs, who have lost seven of their last eight games.
