Garino, George Washington beat Grambling St. 92-40

WASHINGTON (AP) Patricio Garino scored 16 of his 21 points in the first half to lead George Washington past Grambling State 92-40 in the season opener for both teams on Friday night.

Garino made 8 of 10 field goals, adding four steals and two blocked shots.

George Washington opened the game with a 12-2 run and, after A'Torri Shine hit a jumper to pull Grambling State within eight, a three-point play by Joe McDonald sparked a 14-2 run which opened up a 20-point Colonials' lead with 7:59 left in the half.

Kevin Larsen finished with 15 points and nine rebounds while Kethan Savage added 12 points, five rebounds, five assists, two steals and two blocks in the win.

Richard Freeman paced Grambling State, which shot just 28.3 percent from the field, with 13 points.

It was George Washington's largest margin of victory since a 109-57 win over Duquesne on Jan. 28, 1999.
